Summer’s here and the possibilities are endless.  That’s especially true if you’re thinking about a musical trip in the USA.  If you’re rewarding your students with an extracurricular excursion, what about a music trip in the USA this summer?

At Peak Performance Tours, we think that’s a stellar idea and here, we’d like to focus on three cities known for great music.  They’re all famous music destinations and they’re all geographically close enough to each other to create a fascinating tour of some of the most legendary music in the nation.

Let’s explore!

Nashville, TN

Start your musical journey in Music City USA, the very heart and soul of American Country music.  This is home to the Grand Old Opry, where Country music legends like George Jones and Dolly Parton first inspired the nation with their enormous musical talent.

Don’t miss the chance to visit RCA Studios, the famed recording studio at which Elvis Presley made his indelible mark.  He was joined by greats like Roy Orbison, who recorded some of his greatest hits right here.

The County Music Hall of Fame is another stop you need to make, to discover the history of one of America’s most internationally famous musical styles and the artists who expressed it through time.

A trip to Nashville wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Johnny Cash Museum to explore the life of the Man in Black.

Memphis, TN

Known as the Bluff City, Memphis sits perched over the mighty Mississippi River.

Probably the most famous historical citizen of Memphis was the King, himself – Elvis Presley.  Fans of Rock n’ Roll history can get up close and personal with his memory at the famed Graceland mansion.

Not to be missed is the buzz of Beale Street, where you’ll find Memphis Blues alive and well at venues like the Gibson Beale Street Showcase.  Known as the Official Home of the Blues, the most iconic street in America and the state of Tennessee’s top tourist attraction, your students will thrill to find themselves in the heart of the action here.  They won’t want to miss out on A. Schwab, a local institution since 1876, vending everything from voodoo supplies to hats for church.

Sun Studio is just a hop, skip and jump away, where students can see the birthplace of Rock n’ Roll that launched the careers of the greats – including Elvis!

New Orleans, LA

Last but far from least, is the mythical Crescent City, the land of dreams which gave birth to the great Louis Armstrong.

Music is a way of life here, with street corners alive with aspiring musicians whose talent will sear your ears.  The sound of brass takes over the streets every Sunday with Second Line parades winding through the streets of the city, some featuring as many as 3 brass bands.

Preservation Hall was founded in 1961 to preserve the rich musical traditions of New Orleans.  Performances take place each night, with 5 performances to choose from.
